Musa Blames Global Wars for Nigeria’s Arms Shortage, Urges Local Production
Defence Minister Christopher Musa warned that the Israel-Iran and Russia-Ukraine conflicts have tied up military suppliers and made it harder for Nigeria to secure critical equipment. He spoke at the Nigerian People’s Strategic Conference and Defence Exhibition in Abuja, calling for stronger support for indigenous defence manufacturing. Musa also appealed to the National Assembly to establish a comprehensive database for every Nigerian. He argued that such a system would help security agencies, especially the police, to track criminals more effectively and prevent crime. He praised local defence innovators and urged government patronage of home-grown equipment. Some forum members, however, questioned where bandits source their weapons and dismissed the global conflict argument as a convenient excuse, while welcoming the push for domestic arms production.
