Sokoto Hisbah Denies Imposing Restrictions on Christian Worship

The Sokoto State Hisbah Board has denied social media claims that it restricted Christian worship or dictated how churches should conduct their services. The board’s commandant, Dr Usman Abdullahi Jatau, said the law establishing Hisbah applies only to Muslims. He said the agency has no authority to regulate church gatherings, require gender separation during services, or interfere with how Christians practise their faith. Jatau described claims that pastors cannot sit with their wives in church and allegations of an Islamisation agenda as false and misleading. He urged residents to avoid unverified reports that could fuel religious tension and harm peaceful coexistence in Sokoto.
