2027: Opposition Parties Meet in Abuja to Discuss a United Electoral Strategy

Opposition parties have begun talks on possible cooperation ahead of the 2027 general elections. Representatives met in Abuja at a summit organised by the G-100 and themed “A Framework for Opposition Cooperation and Coordination.” The meeting brought together representatives of the ADC, APM, NDC, PDP, PRP and SDP. Organisers say the immediate goal is to build a framework for dialogue and identify areas where the parties can coordinate their activities. A key concern is vote fragmentation, as multiple opposition candidates could split support among similar voter blocs. However, the parties still face major differences in ideology, structure and the ambitions of leading politicians. Whether the talks lead to a formal alliance, electoral pact or a single presidential candidate remains uncertain. Any coalition will need to present credible leaders, clear policies and a practical governing plan for Nigerians.
