Apostle Queen Belemzy Urges Alleged Victims of Clergy Abuse to Speak Out
Apostle Queen Belemzy has urged Christians and people who allege abuse by religious leaders to report it and seek legal help. Speaking at a church programme in Port Harcourt, she said silence, fear and intimidation can allow alleged exploitation to continue in religious spaces. She said she had faced criticism after speaking publicly against a religious leader over alleged misconduct. According to her, some alleged victims later withdraw complaints or apologise because they fear threats, social pressure or reprisals against their families. Belemzy also criticised religious figures she accused of exploiting followers financially and using spiritual authority to bully them. She said people with allegations of sexual abuse or other serious crimes should pursue appropriate legal channels. The claims she referenced have not been independently established, and anyone accused is entitled to respond.
