Shehu Dikko’s March Warning to NFF Before Board Resignation
National Sports Commission chairman Shehu Dikko had urged the Nigeria Football Federation to begin broad governance reforms during its Extraordinary General Assembly in Yenagoa in March 2026. In the speech, Dikko said the NFF’s 2010 statutes were outdated and called for greater inclusion of players, clubs, leagues, referees, coaches and administrators. He also demanded stronger transparency, accountability and private-sector investment in Nigerian football. Dikko warned that the system must reform itself or “the correction will be done for it.” The speech has gained renewed attention following the resignation of the Ibrahim Gusau-led NFF board.
