Police Unveil Digital Passenger and Hotel Manifest System to Boost Security
The Nigeria Police Force has unveiled the National Transit E-Manifest (NTEM), a digital platform for recording passenger and hotel guest information. The system was introduced at a stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos involving hotel operators, transport workers and security-sector representatives. Police officials said the platform is intended to replace unreliable handwritten passenger manifests and hotel registers. It will allow authorised agencies to access records more quickly during investigations, trace suspects and respond to threats such as kidnapping, human trafficking, highway attacks and one-chance robbery. The system will integrate identity verification, including the National Identification Number, into transport and hotel check-in processes. Its backers say it will improve the accuracy and speed of information sharing, while stressing that access to personal data must follow legal procedures and safeguards.
