Ebonyi Government Refutes Claims of Threat Against Minister Wike

At a June 15 rally endorsing President Tinubu and APC candidates, Governor Francis Nwifuru cautioned elements spreading fake news but did not threaten FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. Information Commissioner Ikeuwa Omebeh clarified that the word “consume” was metaphorical, referring to legal consequences rather than a personal attack. Omebeh accused rival PDP factions and some media of twisting the governor’s remarks to create a rift between Nwifuru and Wike. He stressed that both leaders maintain mutual respect and that any attempt to pit them against each other “will fail like a pack of cards.” The government urged the PDP to focus on resolving its internal crises instead of commenting on the performance of the state administration, arguing that a party mired in discord lacks the moral authority to criticize effective governance.
