Rwandan Government Critic Robert Kabera Found Dead Near Kampala
Robert Kabera, a former Rwandan army sergeant major and outspoken critic of President Paul Kagame, has been found dead on the outskirts of Kampala, Uganda. Ugandan police said residents discovered his body over the weekend, with part of his remains still missing. Kabera had sought asylum in Uganda after fleeing Rwanda, where he faced allegations he denied. He said he was being politically persecuted. His family said he had travelled to inspect a construction site about 45 kilometres outside Kampala before the incident. Kabera was also a musician and online commentator who published hundreds of videos critical of the Rwandan government. His death has renewed concerns about the safety of Rwandan opposition figures living in exile, while police investigations continue.
