SEDC, GasSync Begin $100m South-East Pipeline Plan Across Five States
The South East Development Commission and GasSync have signed an investment agreement for a proposed $100 million, 400-kilometre gas distribution pipeline serving Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Abia and Ebonyi. The network is expected to link gas from Ohaji in Imo to industrial and commercial hubs including Owerri, Aba, Onitsha, Enugu and Ebonyi. Project promoters say about 150 potential customers have been identified, with manufacturers, power plants and agro-processing firms among the targeted users. The SEDC has committed an initial $3 million and is seeking up to $30 million in regional participation to help attract private capital. Construction is planned to begin simultaneously from Ohaji and Onitsha, while the South-East governors have pledged support for right-of-way, environmental approvals and host-community engagement.
