Utomi Calls for Live Streaming and Body Cameras at Polling Units Ahead of 2027

Professor Pat Utomi has called for wider use of technology to improve transparency during Nigeria’s elections ahead of 2027. He said voters should be able to use devices to document and monitor activities at polling units. Speaking on a television programme, Utomi argued that body cameras and live-streaming facilities could help reduce electoral manipulation, especially where political parties are unable to deploy agents. He said stronger voter participation and independent monitoring could make it harder for electoral officials, security agencies or political actors to undermine the will of voters. Utomi warned that Nigerians may resist any attempt to restrict tools that promote transparent elections.
