US Charges Three Nigerian Nationals Over Alleged Illegal Voting and Fraud
The US Department of Justice says it has charged 16 people, including three Nigerian nationals, over alleged illegal voting, voter-registration fraud and related offences. Helen Sayen Adams, 67, is accused of voting as a non-citizen in a federal election and falsely claiming US citizenship to register to vote. Joshua Nmelichukwu Akpom, 27, is charged over alleged false statements connected to naturalisation. Gladys Adaeze Okafor, 56, was previously arrested and charged over alleged illegal voting in the 2022 election and is also accused of voting in the 2024 general election. The broader investigation also uncovered allegations involving wire fraud, passport fraud and unlawful firearm purchases.
