Netanyahu Rejects Gaza Plan, Insists Hamas Must Disarm Before Israeli Withdrawal

Netanyahu Rejects Gaza Plan, Insists Hamas Must Disarm Before Israeli Withdrawal

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected a reported 15-point Gaza proposal backed by US President Donald Trump, saying Israeli forces will not withdraw until Hamas is fully and verifiably disarmed. The proposal reportedly calls for Hamas and other armed groups to surrender weapons, Israeli troop withdrawals and Gaza’s reconstruction under a Board of Peace. Hamas says it will only hand over heavy weapons after Israel ends its attacks and withdraws from the territory. Netanyahu said Israel would continue acting against threats to its forces and citizens, rejecting what he described as any “fictitious disarmament”. The disagreement is another setback for efforts to turn the Gaza ceasefire into a longer-term peace arrangement. In my view, Netanyahu is taking a firm position because he believes concessions without verifiable disarmament could allow Hamas to regroup and attack again.
