Ogun WDC Backs Maternal Health Bill to Cut Preventable Deaths
The Ward Development Committee (WDC) Ogun State Council has called for stronger legal protections to reduce maternal deaths and improve access to safe motherhood services in the state. At a stakeholders’ forum on a proposed maternal health bill in Abeokuta, the council said no woman should die while giving life. The bill seeks to address maternal morbidity and mortality, reproductive health rights, and legally permitted safe termination of pregnancy. The forum brought together lawmakers, health professionals, civil society groups and development partners to review the proposal. The WDC urged sustained investment in primary healthcare, essential medicines, trained health workers, emergency obstetric care and community health education across Ogun’s 236 wards.
