Nigeria Ranks Third Globally in Estimated Number of Church Buildings

A ranking shared by StatiSense places Nigeria third among countries with the highest estimated number of church buildings. The list puts Nigeria at more than 100,000 churches, behind the United States with an estimated 350,000 to 380,000 and Brazil with 280,000 to 300,000. The figures refer to registered churches, so totals may be higher where house churches and unregistered congregations are included. Russia is listed with about 90,000 churches, followed by Mexico with 88,000, the Philippines with 85,000 and China with more than 70,000. Nigeria’s large Pentecostal, Catholic and Protestant communities contribute to its high ranking.
