Seven Arrested After NURTW Clash in Garki II as Police Deny Shooting Claims
The FCT Police Command has denied reports that officers shot at members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers at the union’s Garki II headquarters. The police described the social media claims as false and misleading. Officers responded after a distress call about violent clashes between rival NURTW factions. Around 300 individuals armed with cutlasses, bottles, bows and arrows tried to enforce a court order without any court officials present. Seven suspects were arrested on the spot and have been charged at Magistrate Court 1, Wuse Zone 2. No firearms were discharged by the police, and normalcy has since been restored. One victim with severe machete wounds was rescued and taken to hospital alongside others with varying injuries. The FCT Command is urging residents to support security efforts by providing timely information through its official emergency lines.
