Thai Hospital Suspends Nurse After One-Year-Old’s Finger Is Accidentally Cut During Discharge
A hospital in Yasothon, Thailand, has apologised after an assistant nurse accidentally cut part of a one-year-old boy’s right index finger while removing gauze from an intravenous line during his discharge on September 11. The severed part was placed on ice and the child was transferred to another hospital for surgery. He has undergone two operations, but doctors have not yet confirmed whether the finger can be successfully reattached. The hospital said it has suspended the assistant nurse, launched an investigation and reviewed its patient-care procedures. The child’s family has reportedly filed a police complaint, while he remains in hospital receiving treatment.
