At 40, I Built a Life of Financial Freedom, Community and Choice
Lagos entrepreneur and chef Imoteda Aladekomo reflects on choosing single motherhood at 20 after leaving an abusive relationship. She also recalls the support and tensions within her family as she raised her daughter and made choices outside religious expectations. After moving from makeup artistry into food, she built a restaurant and a home-fragrance business. She says financial independence has given her the freedom to support her daughter, shape her own home and make decisions on her own terms. She also discusses love, intimacy and why marriage is not part of her plans. For her, a full life is built through work she enjoys, close family, friendships, firm boundaries and the ability to choose herself.
