Should the Number of Children Affect How We Judge Single Mothers?
I think separation after one child may reflect an early decision to leave a relationship that has become unhealthy or incompatible. In such cases, either partner may have recognised serious issues before more responsibilities followed. However, I question why society often assumes that a woman who leaves after having several children lacks commitment or has unrealistic expectations. People can remain in difficult marriages for years because of family pressure, finances, hope for change or concern for their children. Rather than blaming single mothers for searching for “better men”, we should discuss the realities that lead couples to separate and the responsibility both parents still owe their children.
