Owner of Iconic ‘Home Alone’ House Found Dead After Child Pornography Arrest
The body of John Abendshien, former owner of the famous Home Alone house, was found on April 22 in Lake Forest Open Lands in Illinois. Authorities ruled asphyxia consistent with self-inflicted injuries as the preliminary cause of death. The 79-year-old had been arrested on April 16 after police received tips linking him to child sexual abuse material. A search warrant seized electronic evidence and he faced seven felony counts before his release with conditions. Abendshien lived in the five-bedroom property during the filming of the 1990 Christmas film and later wrote a memoir about life in the iconic home. He sold the house in 2012.
