Cross River Plans Digital Livestock Database to Boost Food Security
The Cross River Government plans to create a livestock database and Livestock Management Information System to improve food security, attract investment and raise productivity across the sector. The proposed system would use geospatial technology to map livestock farmers, animal populations, production sites, grazing areas and pasture resources across the state. Officials say the data will support better planning, targeted interventions and veterinary services. The initiative is also expected to improve disease surveillance and biosecurity, help investors identify opportunities, and guide the allocation of resources for livestock production. The state’s livestock development department intends to work with the Cross River State Geographic Information Agency on the project.
