Never Plan a Surprise Proposal Before Discussing Marriage
I watched a video of a man who proposed to his girlfriend in front of a crowd. Everyone began shouting, “Say yes!” as though they were the ones entering the marriage. She said no, looked uncomfortable and walked away. He remained on one knee, clearly embarrassed and heartbroken. I genuinely felt for him. My rule is simple: do not plan a proposal until you have both discussed marriage clearly. Your partner should have shown that she sees a future with you, asked about your plans and talked about meeting family or settling down. A proposal can be a surprise, but the decision to get married should never be one. No one wants to invite family, hire a photographer and buy flowers, only to discover that their partner was never ready for that step.
