Police Parade Two Nephrologists, Others Over Alleged Kidney Trafficking in Nasarawa

Police Parade Two Nephrologists, Others Over Alleged Kidney Trafficking in Nasarawa — 1 of 2
1 / 2

The Nigeria Police Force has paraded four suspects, including two nephrologists, over an alleged kidney-trafficking syndicate in Nasarawa State. Police said vulnerable young men were allegedly lured into donating kidneys and paid amounts far below the value of the organs. One alleged victim was said to have received about $1,250, while another reportedly received ₦7 million after a kidney was removed. Investigators alleged that forged birth certificates, affidavits, consent letters and identity documents were used to facilitate the procedures and hide some donors' identities. A representative of Wellington Clinic said the facility provided the venue for surgeries but was unaware of any alleged unlawful activity. Police say investigations are continuing as they seek other suspects.
