Counterfeit and substandard products remain a major concern in Nigeria. Fake or unregistered items can appear in medicines, skincare products, food, drinks and other everyday goods, even when the packaging looks convincing. Consumers should check for clear expiry dates, batch numbers, manufacturer details, ingredient lists and relevant regulatory registration numbers. Products with missing, altered or misleading information should be treated with caution. NAFDAC, SON and the FCCPC have warned consumers to verify products and buy from trusted sellers. What more should regulators, manufacturers, online marketplaces and buyers do to keep fake products out of Nigerian markets?
