FG Releases Eight Months’ Salary Arrears to SSANU Members After Strike Threat
The Federal Government has released funds for eight months of salary arrears owed to members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU). The payment followed the union’s 14-day ultimatum and threat of an indefinite strike. SSANU said members should begin receiving the funds soon, but noted that other entitlements remain outstanding. These include two months of salaries withheld during the 2022 industrial action and one year of arrears linked to the 25 per cent and 35 per cent salary increases. The union welcomed the release and urged university branches to work with their managements for prompt disbursement. It also asked the Federal Government, state governments and university governing councils to fully implement outstanding agreements to prevent further industrial unrest.
