Anioma Man Urges Niger Delta Igbo Communities to Explore and Preserve Their Ancestry
US-based Anioma indigene Kingsley Kesse has urged Igbo communities outside the South-East, especially in parts of Delta and Rivers states, to learn more about their ancestry, history and cultural heritage. Kesse said he encouraged 23 friends from Anioma, Ikwerre and upland Rivers to take ancestral DNA tests in the United States. He said the results pointed to Igbo ancestry among all participants, strengthening his view that political boundaries should not erase historical connections. He called on communities to preserve indigenous languages, document family histories and teach younger generations about their roots. However, DNA results can only estimate genetic ancestry and do not by themselves determine cultural identity, which is also shaped by history, language, tradition and community affiliation.
