Anambra State health officials and journalists inspected the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku-Awka, after a viral podcast alleged poor sanitation, potholes, deteriorating wards and poor patient care. Health Commissioner Afam Obidike and Chief Medical Director Maureen Umeakuewulu said the inspection found a clean facility, with no potholes, gully erosion or unhygienic wards as alleged. The hospital said it conducts regular sanitation, vegetation control and fumigation, and invited residents to verify conditions themselves. The doctor whose comments featured in the podcast said his remarks largely referred to past gaps at the hospital and its emergency room, rather than its present condition under the new management. He acknowledged recent upgrades, including renovations, improved staff welfare, a trauma centre and planned medical equipment purchases.
