Persecution or Correction? What Jesus Teaches Christians About Responding to Criticism
I believe Christians need to distinguish between genuine persecution for righteousness and the discomfort of being corrected. Not every criticism is an attack on faith, and not every disagreement means we are suffering for Christ. Sometimes, a challenge to our words or conduct is an invitation to examine ourselves honestly. Jesus faced rejection, false accusations, humiliation and crucifixion, yet He responded with truth, restraint and love. He did not abandon righteousness, but He also did not turn opposition into an excuse for hatred or revenge. His example reminds us that a faithful response to injustice is part of our witness. Scripture calls believers to uphold truth while remaining humble enough to accept valid correction. We should not use the language of persecution to defend wrongdoing or wounded pride. The real question is whether we are standing for righteousness or resisting accountability when it threatens our comfort and reputation.
