Oyo Police Arrest Two Officers After Okada Rider Dies During Unauthorized Stop-and-Search
On April 24, 2026, two officers from the Kara Police Outpost in Moniya, Ibadan, carried out an unauthorized stop-and-search on 35-year-old commercial motorcyclist Sanni Salisu. The rider suddenly collapsed, showing signs of an epileptic seizure, and was rushed to Modupe Hospital but was later confirmed dead by medical staff. News of Salisu’s death sparked confusion and anger in the community. Misinformation spread quickly, leading some residents to attack and set fire to parts of the Kara outpost. Three motorcycles and a police patrol vehicle were burned, and one officer suffered severe burns before reinforcements restored order. The Oyo State Commissioner of Police has ordered the immediate arrest of the two officers involved. The case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a discreet investigation, including a full autopsy. The command urges the public to rely on official updates and to remain calm while justice is pursued.
