Army Launches Rescue Operation After Terrorists Abduct Villagers in Niger State

The Nigerian Army has launched a rescue operation after terrorists abducted several residents of Dekara District in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State. The attack occurred on Friday as troops moved towards the border community, which lies near Kainji Lake National Park. The attackers reportedly killed some residents and later engaged the deployed soldiers, but were repelled. The Army said one AK-47 rifle and other items were recovered. The exact number of people killed or abducted is still unknown, as some residents fled into neighbouring Benin Republic. Troops are maintaining positions in the area as preparations continue for a wider clearance operation aimed at restricting terrorist movement within the park forest.
