Ondo Mother Alleges Political Thugs Killed Son, Says Detained Suspects Were Framed

The mother of Tope, a young man killed in Idanre, Ondo State, has alleged that political thugs linked to figures known as “Cobu” and “National” were responsible for his death on February 18, 2026. She said the people currently detained and prosecuted over the killing are innocent and were framed because of alleged political disagreements involving Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. She also accused the police of failing to act on her petitions and alleged that officers were influenced to pursue the wrong suspects. The wife of detained Tuyi Akintimehin Sosoliso also claimed that her husband was wrongly targeted, tortured in custody and left with serious health concerns. Both women appealed for intervention and the release of those in remand custody. The minister did not respond to requests for comment at the time of the report.
