NGX Extends Trading Hours to 4 PM, Paving Way for Deeper Liquidity
The Nigerian Exchange Limited has moved its closing time to 4:00 p.m. and opened trading from 9:00 a.m., extending the daily window by an hour. Approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission, this change aligns with Nigeria’s new Frontier Market status by FTSE Russell. The longer hours aim to boost liquidity, improve price discovery, and give investors more time to act on economic and corporate news. Following stakeholder consultations, the gradual extension starts on April 27, 2026. The exchange expects this reform to attract more local and international participation while modernizing market operations.
