Dating Without a Plan Can Turn Love Into Monthly Billing
Sometimes I look at relationships today and wonder when love became so tied to cars, clothes, phones, restaurants, trips and constant financial expectations. Money matters, especially in Nigeria. But I would be careful dating someone who is unemployed and has no serious plan to become financially independent. Losing a job or struggling after school is not a character flaw. What matters is the effort to find work, learn a skill, build a business or take available opportunities. When there is no income and no effort, every expense can gradually become your responsibility: transport, data, food, personal care and rent. Before long, the relationship can feel less like partnership and more like running a small government. I would rather be with someone who earns little but is working to improve than someone who expects a partner to fund their entire lifestyle. The same applies to men. Love should help two people build together, not make one person the permanent financial plan of the other.
