Abuja Court Defers Ruling on 57 Properties Linked to Malami to July 10
The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned judgment in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s final forfeiture suit over 57 properties alleged to be proceeds of crime linked to former AGF Abubakar Malami, SAN. At Monday’s sitting, EFCC counsel Jibrin Okutepa, SAN, urged the court to grant the forfeiture application. He presented a motion supported by a 47-paragraph affidavit and 46 exhibits, arguing that the respondents failed to show a legitimate source for the assets. Malami’s lawyer, Adedayo Adedeji, SAN, opposed the suit with a 109-paragraph affidavit. He asked the court to set aside the interim forfeiture order, stressing that the EFCC relied on suspicion rather than evidence and noting that some properties were acquired before Malami became Attorney-General. No reason was given for the adjournment. The court will now deliver its final judgment on July 10.
