Ondo Suspected Poisoning Outbreak Kills 49, Affects 170 People
The death toll from a suspected poisonous alcoholic substance outbreak in Ondo State has risen to 49, with 170 people affected. The state health commissioner said eight deaths were recorded in Irele Local Government Area. Health officials have deployed response teams for surveillance, treatment, contact tracing and monitoring in affected communities. Authorities have not yet identified the source of the suspected substance. Investigators are examining whether the poisoning came from one source or several sources as efforts continue to prevent further deaths.
