Messi Matches MLS Record With Third Straight 20-Goal Season

Lionel Messi has become only the second player in MLS history to score at least 20 league goals in three consecutive seasons. He reached the mark with a free-kick in Inter Miami’s 2-2 draw against San Diego FC. The Inter Miami captain now shares the record with LAFC forward Denis Bouanga, who achieved it from 2023 to 2025. Messi scored 20 league goals in 2024, 29 in 2025 and has reached 20 again in 2026 with eight regular-season matches left. The 39-year-old leads the MLS Golden Boot race with 20 goals and 13 assists in 23 appearances. He has also scored more than 100 goals for Inter Miami in all competitions and could become the first player to win the MLS MVP award three times.
