Nigerian Govt Cancels Compulsory COVID-19 Test For Vaccinated Travelers

The required COVID-19 test for vaccinated passengers entering Nigeria has been scrapped by the Federal Government. During a news conference on Monday, Boss Mustapha, Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19 and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, revealed this. Inbound fully vaccinated people arriving in the country will no longer be required to do a pre-departure PCR COVID-19 test, according to him. Mustapaha claimed that fully vaccinated travellers will be subjected to a fast antigen test at the airport by the Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC), which would be conducted at the arrival halls of all points of entry and airports across the country. Fully vaccinated travellers will not be charged for arrival quick antigen tests at the airport, according to the PSC chairman. The amended foreign travel protocols will take effect on Monday, April 4th, 2022, according to the SGF. "Passengers who are unvaccinated or inadequately vaccinated must perform a COVID-19 PCR test 48 hours before to departure, or a Day 2 and Day 7 test on arrival," he explained. Passengers who fall into this category will be expected to pay for their PCR testing via the travel site. "The same rules that apply to fully vaccinated adults apply to children aged 10 to 18 years; they will not be required to have pre-arrival PCR tests, but will have a sample obtained at the airport but will not be charged." "All passengers departing Nigeria are advised to be properly vaccinated and to follow COVID-19 norms and standards in their destination country." The PSC continues to highly urge the use of face masks in enclosed environments, according to the SGF, while the use of face masks in open spaces is discretionary. He emphasized that while there has been a constant decrease in the number of instances around the world, Nigerians need not relax their guard just yet because there are predictions of rebounding, as Nigerians can witness in China, South Korea, Germany, Vietnam, France, and Hong Kong.
