19-Year-Old Blogger Arraigned for Defaming UBA Chairman Tony Elumelu

The Force Criminal Investigation Department arraigned 19-year-old blogger Nuwanorue John Surpruchi at a Federal High Court in Lagos over alleged cyberstalking, bullying and defamation of UBA Group Chairman Tony Elumelu. Surpruchi faces four counts, including conspiring to spread false claims via a Twitter handle that Mr. Elumelu divorced his wife after a DNA discovery and publishing defamatory material viewed by about 1.9 million users. He pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors requested his remand pending a bail application. Justice Lewis Alagoa adjourned the bail hearing to June 19, 2026, and ordered the blogger held at the Nigeria Correctional Centre.
