Golden Eaglets Coach Apologises After WAFU B U-17 Group-Stage Exit
Golden Eaglets coach Eboboritse Uwejamomere has apologised to Nigerians after the team failed to qualify from the group stage of the 2026 WAFU B U-17 Championship in Burkina Faso. Nigeria lost 2-1 to Niger Republic in their opening match and needed to beat Côte d’Ivoire to reach the semi-finals. However, the Eaglets played out a 1-1 draw and were eliminated. The result also means Nigeria will miss the 2027 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and, consequently, the 2027 FIFA U-17 World Cup. The coach said the players and technical crew share supporters’ disappointment and urged fans to forgive the team. He added that the teenage players should learn from the setback as they continue their development in football.
