Nampa Mayor Rick Hogaboam, 47, Dies After Collapsing During Town Hall Speech
A newly elected Nampa mayor, Rick Hogaboam, suffered a fatal medical emergency while speaking at a Treasure Valley Partnership town hall on March 18. He collapsed mid-speech in Eagle, Idaho, and Eagle Mayor Brad Pike immediately began CPR. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, but life-saving efforts were unsuccessful. Hogaboam had been sworn in just two months earlier after winning November’s election with 62.86% of the vote. A former city councilman, interim state senator, and Canyon County clerk, he served as chief of staff to his predecessor, Debbie Kling, for nearly four years. Known for his love of the Buffalo Bills, Hogaboam moved from western New York to Nampa in 2008. He is survived by his wife, Mimi, five children, and a grandchild. Local officials described his death as an “unbelievable loss” and praised his dedication to strengthening the community. Nampa officials must now appoint a successor before the next four-year mayoral term. The cause of death remains under investigation.
