Osimhen Injury Doubt Leaves Super Eagles Searching for AFCON Qualifiers Striker
Victor Osimhen is reportedly doubtful for Nigeria’s opening 2027 AFCON qualifying matches after suffering a right adductor injury while playing for Galatasaray. He was forced off after 33 minutes despite scoring in the game. The Super Eagles are scheduled to face Madagascar on September 25 before travelling to Guinea-Bissau four days later. With Paul Onuachu also reportedly carrying an injury, Eric Chelle could be short of recognised centre-forwards. Tolu Arokodare, Akor Adams and George Ilenikhena are among the options being considered. Ilenikhena arrives in strong form after scoring twice for Al-Ittihad against Al-Nassr, taking his league tally to five goals in five matches. Who should lead Nigeria’s attack if Osimhen is unavailable, or should the Super Eagles adjust their system without a traditional No. 9?
