Kwara Court Sentences Eiye Cult Leader and Five Others to 10 Years After Eight-Year Trial
After nearly eight years of legal proceedings, the Kwara State High Court convicted BolaKale Bayero, alleged leader of the Eiye Secret Cult, alongside five co-defendants. They faced an 11-count charge including criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, membership of an unlawful society, disturbance of public peace and mischief under the Robbery and Firearms Act, the Penal Code and Kwara State’s Secret Cults Prohibition Law. In her verdict, Justice Adenike Akinpelu found them guilty of cultism, mischief and public disturbance but acquitted them on attempted culpable homicide. Each was sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment, with credit for time already served in pre-trial detention.
