NUJ Anambra Marks 35 Years, Urges Journalists to Defend Truth and Ethics

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Anambra State Council, marked its 35th anniversary and 2026 Press Week in Awka with calls for journalists to uphold truth, accountability and professional ethics in the digital age. Speakers, including NUJ National President Alhassan Yahya and Anglican Bishop Ephraim Ikeakor, urged media practitioners to verify information, resist financial inducements and prioritise investigative reporting. They also called for better welfare, safety and health insurance support for journalists in Anambra. The event featured the 2026 NUJ Anambra Man of the Year Awards and the Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna Award for Ethical Journalism. Ukpa Ewa won the top ethical journalism prize of ₦350,000, becoming the first female overall winner since the award began.
