COWA Reports 14,882 Trees Planted and 682 Green Ambassadors Mobilised
The Customs Officers’ Wives Association says it planted 14,882 trees and mobilised more than 682 Green Ambassadors in the first year of its Green Borders and Sustainability Initiative. The group also reported 6,093 community education and outreach activities, 4,041 health and wellness interventions, and skills-acquisition support for 1,138 people. Its environmental activities included a nationwide tree-planting campaign, clean-up exercises in Nigeria Customs Service barracks, school eco-clubs and the adoption of COWA School in Idiroko, Ogun State, as a Green Borders Eco-School. The association also planted fruit trees at Government Secondary School, Jabi, Abuja. Beyond environmental work, COWA said it supported families of fallen officers, donated blood-pressure monitoring machines to women in Nasarawa State, and trained women through its skills acquisition centre and an enterprise workshop in Gwagwalada. The association says it plans to expand its environmental restoration, health, education and women’s empowerment programmes in its second year.
