Tragedy in Kebbi: Five Young Footballers Killed in Road Crash
Five young footballers travelling from the Ambursa area to a friendly match died in a crash on Airport Road in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area. The victims—Abbas, Auwal, Abdullahi, Abdulsalam and Alhaji Dan Abu—were among 18 passengers in a Toyota Sienna that lost control and somersaulted, according to a national newspaper report. Governor Nasir Idris witnessed the accident firsthand and joined the rescue operation. He directed emergency care for those injured and described the loss as a great tragedy for both the Ambursa community and Kebbi State. On the governor’s behalf, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs presented ₦20 million to the families of the deceased, ₦1 million to each injured passenger and ₦2 million to other occupants of the vehicle.
