Is AI Helping Us Think Better or Making Us Think Less?

Artificial intelligence makes everyday tasks faster, from drafting emails and generating ideas to helping students with assignments. But as we rely on it more, are we giving our minds fewer chances to remember, reason and create independently? Before AI became widely available, people often had to work through problems, practise ideas and learn from mistakes. That mental effort may be uncomfortable, but it also builds critical thinking, creativity and confidence. AI should be a useful tool, not a replacement for judgment. If the next generation grows up expecting a machine to solve every difficult task, will they still develop the patience and intellectual discipline needed to think for themselves? The concern is not that AI is becoming too intelligent. It is whether humans may gradually stop exercising the intelligence they already have.
