Why Do Some Prayers Seem Unanswered Despite Faith and Fasting?

Does God still answer prayer requests? I am asking for a straight and honest answer. In the Bible, God answered Elijah with fire, gave Hannah a son after her prayers at Shiloh, protected Daniel in the lions’ den, and saved Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego from the fiery furnace. Why do instant answers seem less common today? If sin can prevent prayers from being answered, were these people completely without sin? What can be said about someone who prays, fasts, avoids sin, worships and remains faithful, yet receives no answer? I have seen church members become tired, discouraged and frustrated after years of waiting, and some eventually leave the faith. How should believers understand this?
