Why Nigerian Students Should Learn French
French is a valuable language for Nigerian students. Nigeria shares borders with French-speaking countries such as Benin, Niger, Chad and Cameroon. Speaking French can make travel, trade and communication with neighbours easier. Learning French can also create opportunities in teaching, translation, tourism, international organisations and cross-border business. Students who speak French may find it easier to study or work in French-speaking African countries and beyond. Start with simple phrases such as: “J’apprends le français” (I am learning French) and “Le français est une langue internationale” (French is an international language). Regular practice in speaking, reading and writing can help students build confidence over time.
