Ondo Court Remands Mother and Son Over Alleged ₦3.8m Supermarket Theft

An Osi Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State has remanded 18-year-old student Sunday Samuel and his mother, Blessing Ode, over the alleged theft of goods and cash worth about ₦3.8 million from a supermarket in Iju. They face seven counts, including conspiracy, shop breaking, stealing, obstruction of arrest, concealing a felony and receiving stolen property. Prosecutors alleged that Samuel and others still at large broke into the supermarket on two occasions, including an incident on August 27, 2026. The prosecution said CCTV footage allegedly captured Samuel during one of the break-ins. His mother was accused of attempting to shield him from arrest and concealing some of the items said to have been stolen. The magistrate ordered that Samuel be held at the Olokuta Correctional Centre and his mother at the Ondo Correctional Facility. The case was adjourned until September 24, 2026, for hearing.
