Although he started, Tuchel opted for a more attacking setup at half-time and withdrew Rice to preserve a substitution for extra time. Despite going 1-0 down to Andreas Schjelderup, Jude Bellingham equalised before the break and secured a 2-1 victory in extra time. Rice had also been managing a neural issue in his hamstring and lower back, which influenced Tuchel’s decision.
