Power Minister Apologises Over Prolonged Blackouts, Promises Supply Improvement in Two Weeks
The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has officially apologised for recent, severe electricity outages. He acknowledged the hardship these blackouts have caused for homes, schools, businesses and industries during the dry-season heat. Adelabu said a special committee is tracking gas-supply commitments and overseeing repairs on key pipelines, including systems run by Seplat Energy. He assured Nigerians that, with these measures, power supply should begin to improve within two weeks. The minister also reaffirmed the government’s broader reform plan to boost generation, transmission and distribution. He set a target of reaching 6,000 megawatts of electricity before the end of 2026, describing the current crisis as a temporary setback. All I can say is that this problem would have been solved ages ago… but no.
